Summer Crew for Corn and Soil Health Project UIUC

Hello, the Bohn, Wander/Ugarte labs are looking for several students to participate in on-campus and on-farm organic research.  We work together so you will get experience with plant breeding, soil science, plant soil interactions, and ecosystem services (productivity and possibly even green house gas emissions).  Duties will include caring for research plots (including weeding), plant (cover crop biomass, phenotying and yield) and soil sampling, sample processing (this is a grid!), helping to pollinate, and carryout field and lab (soil health) analysis.  It will be hard work but you will learn a lot.  Applicants can delve more deeply into plant breeding or soil applications if desired.  Independent projects that include modeling and analysis are options for ambitious students.

Students will work from 20 to 40 hrs a week beginning in May, with the possibility of continued work through the year.   Starting pay rate is 10$ hr.

Interested applicants should contact Christopher “mujjabi2@illinois.edu” and/or Mario “mnunez90@illinois.edu
