Everyone who fills out a membership form and/or a “Share Form” on the National Farm to School Network (NFSN) website during October (National Farm to School Month) will be entered to win a drawing for $1,000 to spend on a farm to school/preschool project in their community! Five additional drawing winners will also be eligible to apply for a free Project Learning Garden™ lesson kit from Captain Planet Foundation that is valued at $1,000; however, winners must have an existing elementary school garden to qualify.
The benefits of membership
Aside from being entered in the drawing, by signing up for a free membership you’ll receive the NFSN e-mail newsletter and will hear about special events like the National Farm to Cafeteria Conference. You will also gain access to the members-only area of their website. As a special offer during Farm to School Month, Organic Valley is offering a downloadable coupon for NFSN members.
Members and non-members can fill out the Share Form, which they use to collect stories about what’s happening on the ground. These stories help them advocate for and raise awareness about for farm to school. Have more than one story to tell? Fill out the form as many times as you want! Every complete submission with a unique story submitted during October will gain you another entry in their contest.
One drawing winner will receive $1,000 from the National Farm to School Network. The prize must be spent on a farm to school/preschool project.
Five qualifying prize winners will receive Project Learning Garden™ lesson kits. Captain Planet Foundation‘s innovative Project Learning Garden™ program comprehensively integrates gardens with core subjects, connects gardens to school cafeterias and offers professional development for teachers to provide project-based learning to their students through their school garden. This lesson kit from Project Learning Garden contains three (3) standards-based lessons per grade level (K-5) and all the supplies/materials needed to teach the lessons out in the garden. In addition, winning schools will receive a mobile garden cooking cart that includes an induction burner, blender, cooking pans/utensils, bowls and all the materials necessary for preparing garden harvests for student taste-tests! These two resources are valued at $1,000. (Everything described above is also available at cost through an e-commerce site for any school who wishes to purchase these educational resources for an existing or planned garden program.)
To enter, fill out a membership form and/or a Share Form between October 1 and October 31, 2014. There is no entry fee or membership fee. Individuals may enter the contest multiple times by filling out both a membership form and a Share Form or by filling out the Share Form multiple times, so long as each submission is complete and each Share Form submission contains a unique story or resource related to farm to school. One (1) $1,000 prize will be awarded, which must be spent on a farm to school/preschool project. Five (5) Project Learning Garden™ lesson kits will be awarded to drawing winners who also meet Captain Planet Foundation’s qualifications, which state that Project Learning Garden™ lesson kits will only be given to individuals or organizations with the ability to put them to use in a pre-existing elementary school (K-5) garden. Project Learning Garden™award qualification will be determined by Captain Planet Foundation on a case-by-case basis.
