Cover Crop Termination Rule Change

USDA has released new guidelines on cover crop termination that pertain to crop insurance for cash crops starting in 2014.   Instead of requiring cover crops to be killed by a certain calendar date, these new guidelines tie the cover crop termination date to the date when the cash crop is actually planted.  The goal of these new guidelines is to give farmers who use crop insurance more flexibility in how their cover crops are managed.

You can download a short publication on the new guidelines by going to the following NRCS webpage and clicking on the link under the “termination” section.
