Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture is a non-profit farm and
education center located just 25 miles north of Manhattan in Pocantico
Hills, New York. Stone Barns operates an 80-acre four-season farm and is
working on broader initiatives to create a healthy and sustainable food
system. Through our Growing Farmers Initiative, children¹s education
programs, and diverse public awareness programs, we work to improve the way
America eats and farms.
Growing Farmers Initiative Coordinator
Stone Barns has an opening for a full-time Growing Farmers Initiative
Coordinator. Supervised by and working with the Growing Farmers Initiative
Director, the GFI Coordinator will help plan and execute GFI programming,
including technical workshops, apprentice classes, online content and the
annual National Young Farmers Conference.
Responsibilities
General Program and Administrative Duties:
· Assist with planning for seasonal technical workshops, including
coordinating with on-farm and off-farm instructors, communicating with
workshop participants and coordinating classroom set-ups and needs
· Oversee registration and check-in for all workshops and maintain
participant list
· Maintain logistics and paperwork of projects with partner
organizations
Apprentice Program:
· Manage and maintain billing and paperwork for apprentice housing
· Assist with planning of weekly classes, including coordinating with
farmer-instructors and arranging for classroom set-ups and needs
Media and Research:
· Conduct research and prepare summaries on topics related to the GFI
· Record GFI activities via photography, video and social media
· Assist the GFI Director with content generation for the Virtual
Grange (online home of the GFI) including articles, photographs, videos and
resource lists/links
National Young Farmers Conference (YFC):
· Field inquiries from presenters and participants
· Maintain online registration site
· Manage event logistics including catering, rentals, set-ups and
staffing
· Coordinate with Development on in-kind donations
· Assist with creation and maintenance of materials for participants,
presenters and guests
· Manage invoicing and payments for vendors and presenters
Required Skills and Experience:
* Undergraduate degree
* Familiarity with agricultural issues and/or farm experience preferred
* Strong communication skills and ease in talking to the public
* Strong writing skills
* Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Word, Excel and
PowerPoint
* Demonstrated ability to work across all levels of an organization,
independently and as a team member
* A self-starter who thinks strategically and can find new and creative ways
to enhance the GFI
* Well-organized, detailed-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects
simultaneously
* Commitment to and passion for Stone Barns Center¹s mission
Compensation
Stone Barns Center offers a salary commensurate with experience and
comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, life insurance and
401k plans.
This is a full time, exempt position. Regular days of work for this position
are Mondays Fridays. GFI workshops occur on occasional Saturdays the GFI
Coordinator¹s presence is required at all of these events.
