The Department of Crop and Soil Sciences at Cornell University is seeking applicants for a 9-month tenure-track position in Sustainable Cropping and Food Systems. This position is part of an interdisciplinary cluster hire that also includes a position in Sociology of Food Systems in the Department of Development Sociology; the incumbent is expected to develop collaborative research and teaching efforts with the counterpart hire.
Responsibilities: This position has 50% Teaching and 50% Research responsibilities and
focuses on challenges around sustainable crop production as a critical issue at the global,
regional and local levels, and the future ability to feed populations without significant resource degradation. The incumbent is expected to teach two courses: Sustainable Agriculture, the college’s introductory course in agriculture, and an upper-level course related to cropping systems and food production. He/she is also expected to be involved in undergraduate advising and graduate student training. The successful candidate is expected to develop a research program involving field-based studies on sustainable cropping systems in an area of the candidate’s strengths and background. Additionally, she/he may focus on the biophysical aspects of cropping and food systems with respect to the agricultural resource base (e.g., land suitability, soil health, climate), the environmental impacts of agricultural practices, and the implications of cropping systems as part of agri-food systems. This position will focus primarily on field crops, but may also include involvement with horticultural crops or collaboration with faculty in those areas.

Qualifications: Ph.D. in Crop Science, Agronomy, or related disciplines. The candidate must
be able to work in a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural setting and create a collegial professional environment. Well-qualified applicants are expected to have a distinguished record of academic accomplishments in sustainable cropping systems – including strong teaching experience – and obtaining extramural grant funding.
